President Uhuru Kenyatta with NASA leaders at State House when South Korea ex-president Park Geun-hye visited Kenya in 2016.

Former South Korea President Park Geun-hye was on Friday sentenced to 24 years in jail after she was found guilty of corruption.

Ms Park made headlines in 2016 when she allegedly requested to meet with Opposition leader Raila Odinga at State House, Nairobi, during her visit to Kenya.

The former president's trip to Kenya saw the former Prime Minister alongside Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula invited to State House for a luncheon.

At the time, the Opposition - under the CORD outfit - had organised heated anti-Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) protests.

Mr Odinga emerged from the luncheon claiming that he and the President Uhuru Kenyatta had agreed to reform the IEBC, a claim that was strongly refuted.

She was surrounded by controversy soon after it was discovered that she purchased 360 erectile dysfunction pills (Viagra) for the Kenya trip.

Her South Korea office explained that the drugs were purchased to assist her and her entourage to treat altitude sickness.

Al Jazeera reported that the disgraced leader was also fined an equivalent of Ksh1.6 Billion after spending the past year in custody awaiting trial.

Ex-president Geun-hye was accused of colluding with a friend, Choi Soon-sil, and a former presidential aide to bully companies into funding her foundations.

In addition, she was convicted for soliciting bribes from the Samsung Group in exchange for government favours.
