The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, President Uhuru Kenyatta, National Super Alliance presidential candidate Raila Odinga and their representatives are set to meet on Tuesday, October 3. This will be another attempt by the polling commission to reach a consensus with the two political outfits ahead of the October 26 repeat presidential election.

On the agenda will be NASA’s issues regarding the repeat election date, their issues with some members of the IEBC secretariat and Jubilee’s move to amend the Electoral Laws. NASA wants IEBC CEO Ezra Chiloba sacked, claiming he was used to manipulate the August 8 election in favour of President Uhuru Kenyatta. The opposition brigade also tabled over 20 demands to the IEBC, saying if they are not met, there will be no election on October 26.

Among the demands was the participation of French IT firm Safran Morpho, Dubai based printers Al Ghurair, Safaricom telecom company and a number of IEBC secretariat officials in the repeat election be ruled out. In their anti-IEBC protests, NASA also included Jubilee’s move to alter the electoral law, saying it will only favour President Uhuru Kenyatta instead of it promoting inclusivity. This October 3rd meeting will be the third meeting called to bring the three parties to the negotiating table.
Jubilee said NASA brought 17 new demands to IEBC. Jubilee agreed to them but NASA changed their mind. Above is a past meeting between Uhuru and IEBC officials. Photo: PSCU.
The first meeting, scheduled for Wednesday, September 27, collapsed due to Jubilee’s move to change the electoral laws. Jubilee also wants to make manual tallying and result transmission made superior, and the electronic one secondary.

The second meeting, scheduled for Thursday, September 28, also collapsed when the Jubilee Party representatives said NASA brought 17 new demands to the table to which they agreed to, but NASA ended up changing their minds again.
